Tulips

 

Today marks the beginning of the 75th Annual Tulip Time Festival in Pella. The town square is looking its best; little dutch stands line the city streets, visitors from near and far arrive daily and thousands of tulips fill the city's gardens.
Here is some Tulip Time Trivia...
-The city plants 75,000 tulips each year
-There are 70 different varieties to extend the season for 3-4 weeks
-The city spends $12,000 in new tulip bulbs each year
-The tulips are planted by hand and take 475 man-hours
-It takes about 5 weeks from the time the green shoots appear to the time that the tulip blooms
-There are 2 parades a day, one in the afternoon and one in the evening, for a total of 6
