Memorial Day weekend was spent celebrating the First Annual "Ralph Fest" in Dubuque. So the story goes like this: A few of my cousins thought that it would be appropriate to honor my Grandpa Ralph (my mom's father) by celebrating a weekend doing all of the things that he loved to do. It was a time to remember all of the fun times we had with Grandpa. They started planning a year ago and it all came to life this past weekend.
The events started on Friday night with everyone coming into town and the family cooking together. Saturday morning was started with a visit to the cemetery, followed by a block party in front of my grandparents house with all of their neighbors. The afternoon was filled with food, gunny sack races, horse shoes and bean bag toss. The night was finished out with a Euker tournament. Sunday morning the first round of the golf tournament started at 9 with the second following. I think the winners were given trophies that once belonged to my grandpa.
It was a fun filled weekend with almost all of the kids and grandkids coming home to celebrate everything Ralph, including Ralph Fest t-shirts with his face on them.
