There are so many enjoyable things about summer, but one that comes to mind is fresh produce and Farmer's Markets.
Last summer we planted a strawberry patch in our back yard. This is Aaron's little pride and joy. You should see how he gets excited to check on the progress of them!! He is always eager to pick any weeds and make sure that they aren't getting smashed by the screen cover we have on them to keep the birds from satisfying their appetite. Of course the first year is all about establishing the plants and sometimes even the second year too.
About a week ago, Aaron went out to check on his berries, and sure enough he spotted a few ripe, red ones. We each picked one and enjoyed the sweet taste of home-grown produce. Ahh, the taste of summer!
I am sure this second year will only bring a small yield, but hopefully next summer we'll have enough to freeze and make jam!!
